Lathrop High Tobacco Free
Story submitted by: Chase Hayes, Community Outreach Student Intern
On March 15, Lathrop High’s Friday Night Live (FNL) hosted a lunch time Tabaco free campaign called Kick “Butts” Day, advocating for teens to avoid using tobacco, cigarettes, and electronic cigarettes. The club decorated the quad with t-shirts with various messages and facts on each shirt. They also hosted an activity where students were able to spin a wheel to choose between eight questions in which for every answer they answered correctly, they received a prize. The club felt that spreading awareness throughout the campus about being tobacco free, was their responsibility. The club advocates for many other projects and awareness events such as drinking and driving, drug free programs, and traffic safety.
Jessica McCuaig is currently a junior at Lathrop High in the FNL club and says, “you can never spread too much awareness. We plan these events and activities to make student pay attention to the message we attempt to get across. We are only given one life and wasting it on irrational decisions at such a young age is why we do what we do.”

TRIVIA: This physicist would have turned 138 years old today. He was honored with the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1921, and profoundly changed the way the universe is understood. He published a paper on mass-energy equivalence, which gave twentieth century's most famous equation (E=???).
He is also well known for many quotes, such as this one below. Comment below to share your answer!
