Pepic sibling continues Buffalo tradition

As valedictorian for Manteca High’s Class of 2017, Lejla Pepic had some great resources for advice when putting together her graduation speech.

“I asked my brothers,” she said on Thursday.

Mahir Pepic was valedictorian for the MHS Class of 2015 while Edvin Pepic was salutatorian for last year’s graduating class.

The Stanford University-bound Lejla Pepic – she learned of her dream of being accepted to the prestigious West Coast school several months ago – along with Si Hao Tang, who was announced as salutatorian, will lead some 340 or so classmates to the tune of ‘Pomp & Circumstance’ at the 7 p.m. commencement ceremonies inside Guss Schmiedt Field on Friday (May 26).

Tang, who has a 4.5 grade point average, is the son of Rong Bo (father) and Pei Fen (mother). He’ll be attending UCLA in the fall.

Tang and Pepic will major in Neuroscience.

“I would like to someday become a physician or a neurologist,” Tang said.

In his years at MHS, he played tennis and soccer during all four years. He was with involved in National Honor Society, California Scholastic Federation, and Academic Decathlon.

“I think what I’ll miss most about Manteca High was that you knew everyone around here,” Tang said.

Pepic, who had a high 4.5 GPA, was in Academic Decathlon, CSF, College Prep, and School Site Council.

She’s an all-around athlete, having played three years of basketball and soccer, and one year running cross country.

The daughter of Sanela and EJ Pepic, Lejla Pepic spent this year away from sports, working instead for the tutoring program Give Every Child A Chance at Woodward Elementary School.

Both she and Tang attended Woodward.

“I’ll miss the support of the (MHS) community, especially my counselor Martha Dias, who was always supportive,” Pepic said.
